Search
the Internet and Raise Money for Heartland Rabbit Rescue
What if Heartland
Rabbit Rescue earned a penny every time you searched the Internet?
Well, now we can!
GoodSearch.com is a new search engine that donates half its revenue,
about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate.
You use it just as you would any search engine, and its
powered by Yahoo!, so you get great results.
Just go to www.goodsearch.com
and be sure to enter Heartland Rabbit Rescue as the charity you
want to support. Just 100 of us searching twice a day will raise
about $730 in a year without anyone spending a dime! Those pennies
really add up!
Use GoodSearch.com every time you search the Internet, and be
sure to spread the word!

Protect
Your Rabbit from Dangerous Summer Temperatures!
We're in the
middle of a dangerous heat wave with temperatures well into the
hundreds across Oklahoma. This is an extremely dangerous situation
for domestic rabbits. Rabbits have a very low tolerance for heat
and temperatures over just 80 degrees Fahrenheit can cause heat
stroke.
If you have a rabbit that lives outdoors, we urge you to bring
your rabbit indoors into an air conditioned environment during
the hot daytime hours. Ideally, rabbits should live indoors year
round to protect them from temperature extremes. You can also
click on the following link to read additional information to
help keep your rabbit cool in the summer: http://www.3bunnies.org/bunnyAC.htm
Pass this information along to anyone who may be housing a rabbit
outdoors. Please take care of yourself and your rabbits in this
dangerous summer heat.

Thank
You!

|
We'd like
to extend a big overdue thank you to the four gentlemen that came
out to help us prepare for our open house held in April. As participants
in OU's 2006 Big Event, Brandon Watson, Samuel Yazzie, Jr., Ricky
Reed and Colin Wagner from the OU Finance Association generously
gave their time and effort to help us with the huge task of giving
the warrens a good spring cleaning. As a result of their efforts,
the warrens looked great and we were that much more prepared for
our open house on April 9th.
We'd also
like to thank everyone that attended the open house and those
that purchased Heartland's Easter baskets. We were able to sell
every one of the baskets we made, making the fundraising effort
a great success. We're hoping to have another open house in the
fall, so stay tuned!
Thanks again,
guys, for all of your help and we wish you much success in all
your future endeavors!

Baskets for Sale!

demand, Heartland is offering our Easter Baskets for sale again
this year! For a donation of $15, you have your choice of a girl
or boy basket filled with Easter goodies for the special children
in your life while helping Heartland's rabbits at the same time.
What better way to celebrate all the Easter Bunny has done for
us than by helping all his furry friends in need? Each $15 donation
goes a long way in helping Heartland in caring for our rescued
rabbits, educating the public about house rabbits and finding
happy forever homes for all of our long-earred friends.
You can order
a basket either by contacting us by phone at 405.830.4646 or by
email at heartlandrabbitrescue@yahoo.com
to make payment and pick-up arrangements. We accept cash and checks
made out to Heartland Rabbit Rescue Fund. If you'd like to pay
by credit or debit card, you can use the convenient PayPal service
by clicking on the icon below. In the subject line, please note
the payment is for an Easter basket and include the best way to
contact you. Baskets will be available for pickup at our open

have the basket shipped, we'll contact you regarding shipping

Please remember
that Easter and bunnies don't mix - go plush instead! Many bunnies
purchased at Easter are neglected and abandoned shortly after.
If you are seriously considering adding a rabbit to your family,
please know that rabbits need constant care and affection and
can live up to 10 years, making them just as much of a commitment
as a dog or cat. We'd be happy to answer any questions you may
have and guide you in your "rabbit research."

Bunderground
Railroad

|
On February 5, Heartland
participated in our first transport for the RabbitWise's Bunderground
Railroad. Five beautiful Florida Whites were transported from
Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Roseville, California. Many willing
and generous people helped them on their way with rest stops,
treats, and much love and attention.
Jeanette Doty, president
of Heartland Rabbit Rescue, met the Ardmore transporter in Norman
and took the rabbits to Elk City, where she met the transporter
who would take them on to Amarillo. There we took time out to
provide water-drenched veggies, hay and clean bedding. Our part
in this tremendous undertaking was small, but the impact for humans
and rabbits alike is great. We had opportunities to talk with
many generous, great-hearted people who work toward better lives
for all creatures, and it gave us joy to share in making a better
life for five little rabbits.
The last we heard,
the rabbits were well, in high spirits, and on their way to loving
foster homes. Incidentally, only four of the rabbits made it to
California - one was adopted on the way there!
If you would like to
check out the Bunderground web site, the address is www.bundergroundrailroad.org.

Elizabeth's
a Mama!

|

|
|
|
Elizabeth is a little
Dutch that came to us in December with two little boy Dutches.
They had been abandoned in their home where the landlord found
them and contacted us. Our first thought was, "Oh, I hope
she's not pregnant!" We soon discovered that she was as she
diligently began building her nest soon after coming to Heartland.
She was quite skilled at nest building! She gratefully took anything
offered to her, paper plates, bags, and towels to add to her nest
along with all of the fur she pulled to keep her coming babies
warm.
A couple days later,
Jeannie visited the south warren early in the morning to find
seven little babies! They are all very cute and growing fast.
One of the babies, who we've named Buttons, is about one third
the size of the other babies. He's a fighter, though, and always
manages to fill his tummy and wiggle his way to the middle of
the pack for a warm nap. They've already opened their eyes and
their fur is growing in beautifully.
Elizabeth has turned
out to be a great mom! She's very protective and makes sure they
get plenty to eat. She's been eating much more herself - seven
babies, that's a lot of feeding to do!
Needless to say, with
seven new babies, we're in desperate need of foster homes. Before
Elizabeth came, we were already over capacity. If you can find
room in your heart and home to foster one of our rabbits, please
read our section on fostering and
contact us. Also, if you are
interested in adopting on of the babies, let us know. We will
keep you posted when they are available for adoption. For more
information on adopting a rabbit from Heartland, please read our
section on adopting.
